Decision 021
Monolith versus microservices
Context
Teams often equate modern architecture with service proliferation.
Decision
Start with modular cohesion. Introduce service boundaries when independent deployability, scaling or ownership clearly demand them.
Trade-offs
Microservices can isolate failure and ownership, but increase distributed complexity, debugging cost and platform overhead.
When I would reconsider
Reconsider if a module has independent scale, divergent release cadence, or a dedicated owning team with clear interfaces.
